'’Every year acute inflammation causes 11 million deaths and it affects 49 million people worldwide. Sepsis is one of several acute inflammatory responses; other acute inflammatory responses can be triggered by injurious agents such as allergens, toxins, burns, and frostbite. The diagnosis of sepsis is often set too late as the characteristic symptoms arise when organ injury has already occurred. IL-6, a cytokine signalling the inflammatory pathway in the human body, plays an important role in the detection of such acute inflammatory responses. Biosensors might be able to early detect IL-6 in blood and could therefore prevent millions of deaths. Acute inflammation with a focus on sepsis: every second counts."
SensUs 2022 challenges the competing student teams from universities from all around the world to come up with a biosensor to rapidly measure IL-6 in blood and with that, help with diagnosing and monitoring acute inflammation in time to increase patient’s chances of survival. More information about the theme of SensUs 2022 will be shared by means of an informative video soon!
Here, at SensUs Digital you will be able to view the live stream of the Event of SensUs 2022, on the 2nd of September.
